Though presently on leave in the UK, I am studying the health effects of Parthenium, as
the focus of my PhD. In my home in Central Queensland Australia, the weed has become
prolific in parts and is perceived to present a real health hazard to those people who
become sensitised to it. As I am still in the early stages of the research, I would be
interested to hear anybody's
suggestions or opinions on my project. I am also a member of the Clermont Parthenium
Action Group which links with Scott Deardon and the Dept of Natural Resources in
Queensland, and is working on the control of Parthenium from a health and land management
aspect of the weed. I shall be back in Australia on June 8th, though will be monitoring my
email in the UK until then.

Dear sir,
I read your article on Gajar Ghas(Parthenium hysterophorus) in health magazine
Nirogdham. Please accept my heatiest congratulations for this article and best wishes for
your work on Parthenium management. After observing increasing infestation of Parthenium in
our country ,I have decided to select the topic on Parthenium management for my Ph.D.
research .I am trying to utilize this obnoxious weed for boigas production. This use will
solve the energy crisis .Also, the slurry from biogas plant can be used as manure for
agricultural fields. My preliminary studies have revealed that it is better to go for
dried Parthenium plant rather than fresh plant for biogas production.I am in search
of scientific works done on this aspect around the world. If possible manage to send the
related references.I am ready to pay the cost,if any.I am also eager to know the opinions
of Parthenium scientists about my project.
With regards,
S.K.Khandelwal, Senior Technical
Assistant(Biochemistry), Department Of Renewable Energy,College Of Technology And

Dear Dr. Oudhia,
Thank you for your invitation to participate in your website and parthenium newsletter.
You will receive an article on the topic quite soon dealing with the status of the invader
in southern Africa. I foresee a close cooperation between South Africa and India as soon
as we start our biocontrol programme. We will have to rely heavily on your and Australias
experience on this subject.
Kind regards,
Dr. Helmuth Zimmermann
